Chestfield parish

It has been brought to our attention that residents living within the boundary of Chestfield Parish Council have been somewhat confused by some of the wording in a leaflet which has been written and distributed by our group to all households in the CT5 area urging people to respond to Canterbury City Council’s first stage consultation on whether Whitstable should have its own town council.

We apologise for this and in hindsight we should have used the formula “currently unparished areas of the Chestfield ward” rather than simply “Chestfield”.

We were required to define in the petition wording which led to Canterbury City Council’s current Community Governance Review (CGR) the area we wished to be reviewed.  The petition wording was “The proposed town council area to be within the unparished boundary of the CT5 postal district.”  Clearly Chestfield village is already parished and we have no intention that the current arrangements that exist should be reviewed, only the non-parished areas of the CT5 area, including those in Chestfield ward, but outside the Parish Council area.

Canterbury City Council will be considering responses to the CGR after the first stage consultation closes on 1 March.  Any responses we make to further consultations to the Council will clearly state that it was always our intention that the unparished areas of the CT5 area should be reviewed, not those already parished.
